The farmhouse of Casale Litta
Welcome to the castle of Casale Litta, also known as ‘Casa dell’Illustrissimo Sig. Conte Pyrro et Vittaliano Visconti Borromei’. After the unification of Italy in 1860, the place-name ‘Casale’ was supplemented with ‘Litta’ to distinguish this locality from other Casale in the peninsula, linked to the Litta dukes who inherited the Visconti Borromeo estates.
It is noteworthy that Giuseppe Garibaldi, with his crew, stayed for a night in the very place where we have created our suite for bed and breakfast guests, giving the room a unique historical value.
The farmhouse, a complex of rural buildings, served as the summer residence of the lord, who came from Milan to holiday and manage his land interests. Ancient documents also mention a ‘castrum’ or castle, indicating the highest part of the village with a spectacular view of the surrounding snow-capped hills and mountains. During their stay, guests can enjoy this unique view. Our renovation has preserved the original appearance to maintain the historical charm that enhances the structure.
